Malltertainment, Un nuevo concepto de diseño multifuncional.

Malltertainment, en Puebla, es un proyecto innovador desarrollado en México por el Arquitecto Pepe Moyao, de Moyao Arquitectos. Este espacio lleno de luz natural y diseño, mezcla de manera perfecta un espacio de entretenimiento con un espacio de compra, buscando mejorar la experiencia de los usuarios en este tipo de desarrollos comerciales.

Por medio de un diseño único, Malltertainment es una caja escénica pensada para recibir más de 2700 personas en su interior, con alturas superiores a los 33mts y gradas retráctiles, que lo convierten en un escenario de entretenimiento multifuncional sumamente eficiente.

El diseño de sus fachadas norte y sur, en sistemas traslúcidos de policarbonato, garantizan no solo un excelente acabado estético, sino también un alto nivel de iluminación natural y confort térmico para los usuarios, permitiendo crear un espacio sumamente agradable para quienes lo disfrutan y aportando al ahorro energético mediante la reducción de uso de sistemas de iluminación artificial y aires acondicionados.

Debido a su flexibilidad superior en el diseño, sus altos niveles de seguridad versus el vidrio, la posibilidad de crear una fachada limpia, con pocos apoyos y excelente difusión de luz, se logra construir una fachada sumamente eficiente, adaptándose plenamente al concepto del arquitecto y las necesidades de los dueños del proyecto, dentro de las cuales, se encuentra la posibilidad de crear un edificio replicable, estéticamente muy llamativo y energéticamente eficiente.

Gracias al correcto ensamblaje entre los requerimientos del cliente, el diseño planteado por los arquitectos y el acompañamiento de Danpal Mexico en el proceso de creación y montaje de la fachada traslúcida, Malltertainment se erige hoy como un nuevo referente en arquitectura comercial y marca una pauta para el desarrollo de este tipo de superficies, donde el usuario puede vivir y disfrutar a su manera cada uno de los espacios aquí creados.


Hangar 5, Natural Lighting at the Service of Aviation

Located in Ezeiza Argentina, and designed by ASZ Arquitectos & MZM Arquitectos, Aerolineas Argentinas have successfully designed, built and commissioned one of the most modern aircraft hangars to date. The hangar spans a combined area of 12,017 m2, and houses a system of crane bridges that sweep the central area, which is also designed, to cover both the fuselage and sides of an aircraft.

The “Hangar 5” project, will allow simultaneous work to be carried out, on 2 “wide-body” aircraft or on four Boeing 737s, from both the 800 series and the MAX. The building was designed in an environmentally friendly way, as it incorporates a high-degree of natural lighting, derived from a Danpal translucent Façade System. Other methods employed to increase efficiency, included the use of low-energy LED lighting, as well as a rainwater collection and reuse system.

In the following lines of text, the architects who designed the project, share their experiences with us:

What was the original concept?

The concept consists of a metallic container building that houses and allows for, the performance of major maintenance tasks, of the largest commercial aircraft in the world: the Airbus 380.

How did you approach it?

It was necessary to consider all of the height restrictions for the building, as established by the aeronautical authorities. We also had to take into account, the dimensions of the airplanes, which informed the design of the structure, as well as the gates, pavements, etc. The maximum height of the building was further limited, due to restrictions resulting from a future track to be built near the hangar.

How was the vision realized?

In order to provide maintenance services to its aircraft fleet, Aerolineas Argentina’s business plan included the design and construction of a Hangar, in a sector of the industrial plant they own in Ezeiza. The original hangars were built 65 years ago, which made it essential, they adapt to new maintenance requirements and for larger aircraft.

How did the geography of the area affect the design?

It is a building of approximately 10,000 m2 of floor space, located in front of the taxiway. Its implantation had to take into account, the need for 50-meter regulatory withdrawals, for the runway and lateral platforms.

How did the geography of the area affect the build – challenges, unforeseen benefits etc.?

The space occupied was empty, with remnants of abandoned aircraft and landfill of old works. It was essential to survey the ground using georadar, to detect any possible interferences, both with current and obsolete facilities.

How did the Danpalon® (another system) contribute to creating the vision aesthetically?

From the first moment, it was our design intention to generate a blind metallic container, which could have the greatest gain of natural light, both at the front and at the gates. Our intention was also to enter into dialogue, with the existing hangars, which are all very different in their morphology, but which share this same concept of natural lighting. On the front of the building, is a metal gate with eight leaves of 10m x 25m each, which run to the sides on guides and rails. These gates are covered in Danpalon®, to complement the natural light at the entrance and from the skylights.


How did the Danpalon® (other system) assist in creating the vision/build technically?

Danpalon® was perfectly adjusted to the requirements and construction sequence. Although it was a complicated job, due to both the work done at height, and the winds in the area, its assembly was quick and concise.

What surprised you about the building upon completion?

The good quality of diffused light and the overall level of natural illumination produced, by the skylights and gates, was positively surprising. A system consisting of Danpalon® linear skylights was proposed, to help guarantee natural light both at the entrance, as well as over the entire surface of the hangar.

What if anything surprised you about the Danpalon®?

The general design that the product allows for, and lends itself to, is very interesting. Clearly, it is an element that contributes toward this being, a contemporary project.

How did you find working with Danpal®, both good and bad?

Dicky’s advice was very good, both during the project stage, and during the execution of the works.

Has the material worked in the way you expected in your original expectations?

The material exceeded our expectations. In a megastructure such as this, the material definitely enhanced its characteristics.

What comments do you have about the systems, good, bad, versatile, aesthetic, use, anything that crosses your mind?

It is a very versatile material. It can be used both for new works, as well as rehabilitation, and provides a contemporary sophisticated image.

How was your experience with Dicky?

The experience with Dicky was very satisfactory, and we will keep this in mind, in the future for new challenges.

What comments do you have about the advice and services provided by DICKY?

The advice provided was very complete. We also received samples of many of their products, which ultimately helped us choose, the correct elements for the project. We also have good graphic and written material, to solve all typical technical issues.

Would you recommend DICKY to other colleagues, what is the outstanding feature of our company?

Undoubtedly, I would recommend your products to other colleagues. We also believe that it is a product, which tends to help save energy consumption, whilst at the same time, promotes a modern architectural image.

One of the reasons that we’re always so eager for spring to arrive is that it feels as if someone suddenly turned on the lights!  After a long dark winter full of shadows, gloomy mornings and early nightfall, we’re thrilled when daylight begins to last longer. We love it when the evening comes and it’s still light out, and when we awake at our usual time but we’re greeted by daylight rather than darkness.  Danpal glass façade wall systems are a way that you can get a headstart on having more daylight inside. That’s because, even though winter casts a long shadow, you can still benefit from bringing in the natural light from outside.  Winter is still a long season, but at least, with our glass façade wall systems, you aren’t entirely dependent on artificial light inside your office or living space.

If we’re honest, we have to admit that, as much as we love being outside, it’s not always the perfect setting.  Weather can be unpredictable and a sudden rain shower can ruin our outdoor plans.  A day that’s too hot makes us lethargic and reluctant to exert ourselves. We all know that snow and hail and downpours send us scurrying inside. So no, nature isn’t perfect. But natural light, well, that’s another matter entirely. Or is it?  We love natural light, but we don’t like the glare. Danpal has found the solution to that because our glass wall façade systems bring in the best of the outdoors, which is the natural light, but the system is designed so that we can limit the glare. The diffusion of light creates the ideal indoor environment.

The wall panels that are used in Danpal facades create a façade that exhibits the superior performance that clients have come to expect from the veteran company, along with the remarkable inclusion of light  for which Danpal is well known. These insulated translucent wall panels are an attractive alternative to the traditional large glass windows that were often seen in the past. While those windows did admit light into an area, they were unable to block the accompanying glare that was an inevitable side effect of the natural light.  Danpal’s insulated translucent wall panels are designed to bring in the light and block the glare, as well as provide superior energy efficiency to the building.

The Advantages Of The Insulated Translucent Wall Panels

The translucent panels are designed to diffuse the amount of light that enters an area, creating a soothing glow that lends itself to the atmosphere that’s preferable for reading, writing, or quiet conversation. Because of the reduced glare, employees working at their desks can benefit from the natural light without suffering from irritating glare.  Danpal has developed panels that have shading functions; the settings for these panels can be adjusted to suit personal comfort levels for customers as well as workers.  The translucent facades have UV blockers to remove any harm that the sun could cause as well as lower the heat index.  Doing without the glare and the risk of sunburn is a bonus of Danpal’s insulated wall panels that glass fails to provide. The Advantages Of Using Polycarbonate For Plastic Façade Panels

Plastic façade panels must be stronger than the weather that pounds them on a regular basis and polycarbonate, which is 200 times stronger than tempered glass, has shown itself to be resistant to the elements. In fact, when polycarbonate is co-extruded with advanced inhibitors, it has the capacity to last the life cycle of the building. Polycarbonate thermoplastics are used for safety glasses, riot gear, sports equipment and bullet proofing, so that gives you some idea of just how strong they are.  Another advantage of polycarbonate is its flexibility; polycarbonate polymers are able to be curved organically so that they take on the shape of the building. Kinetic Façade Buildings: Studio Legal Terrero & Mejía

Seeking to generate a new image for an existing structure, the Studio Legal Terrero & Mejia, architect Oscar Torrejón relied upon the concepts of the future, of innovation, and of quality in order to carry out the refurbishment of this building.  Utilizing the characteristics of the materials, the Danpalon Kinetic panels, the architect created an interior space with a greater sense of size and lightness. Within, elements that distorted the overall global objective were eliminated in order to unify the materials that were used.  The objective was to create a flexible workspace surrounded by a unique façade and a waiting room with the aim of reflecting the evolution and growth of the Studio Legal Terrero & Mejia. Danpal innovative materials and the architect’s vision made it possible to create a building which would honor the memory of the previous structure while becoming a point of reference at the national and regional levels for this Dominican Republic architectural icon.

Most of the time, when we think about weather issues, we consider the problems caused by heavy rains, which often create havoce3444 as basements flood and in severe cases, rivers overflow, leading to catastrophic damage at great cost.  Then there’s snow, which brings its own set of weather issues to consider. At this sports complex in France, the impressive results of Danpatherm RK7 can be seen. Studio Legal Terrero & Mejía, Un ícono de la Arquitectura Dominicana

La nueva imagen de Studio legal Terrero & Mejía ha sido plasmada en un espacio arquitectónico altamente innovador desarrollado por la firma Española, Luis Vidal + Arquitectos y la empresa Dominicana Plásticos Comerciales, esta última, con más de 25 años de experiencia en el desarrollo de proyectos y soluciones con base en sistemas Danpal.

El concepto original, desarrollado por el Arquitecto Oscar Torrejón, tiene como objetivo generar un ícono arquitectónico en Santo Domingo, basado no solamente en la innovación sino también valiéndose de conceptos de futuro y soluciones de alta calidad para lograr así una presencia a pie de calle que lograse dicho objetivo en un espacio con identidad propia.

Con base en este objetivo inicial, y en compañía del Arq. Freddy Johnson de Plásticos Comerciales, se inicia el desarrollo del proyecto donde gracias a las características de los materiales, se logra configurar un espacio interior con mayor sensación de tamaño y ligereza generados a través de los reflejos y texturas de los sistemas implementados.

A nivel exterior, las oficinas de Studio Legal Terrero & Mejía logan crear una fachada única gracias a la implementación, por primera vez en la región, de un sistema Danpalon Kinetic, el cual ofrece un look único al edificio, logrando, en palabras del Arq. Torrejón, una identidad que honrara la memoria del pasado, y a su vez, convirtiera la edificación en un punto de referencia tanto a nivel nacional como regional.

Otro aspecto a destacar dentro de éste particular e innovador proyecto, es el hecho de la implementación de una cubierta Danpatherm RK7, la cual genera gran facilidad constructiva y un excelente aislamiento térmico al interior del espacio, generando altos niveles de confort a los usuarios y optimizando la iluminación natural, hecho que particularmente, aporta en la consecución de esa sensación de amplitud y diseño pensada por los diseñadores.

Gracias a las características de los sistemas implementados, y a la casi infinita variedad de colores y texturas ofrecidas por Danpal y Plásticos Comerciales, la visión de los diseñadores logro configurar una matriz equilibrada para el volumen intervenido, ofreciendo una alta coherencia al discurso del espacio dada la implementación del material tanto en el exterior como en el interior del espacio.

Al final, la perfecta combinación entre el diseño arquitectónico de Luis Vidal + Arquitectos, la asesoría personalizada de Plásticos Comerciales y la correcta implementación de las soluciones Danpal, logran crear una edificación icónica, donde la estética, la funcionalidad y logran consolidar la visión del arquitecto y satisfacer a cabalidad los requerimientos del usuario final

Interview with Architect Oscar Torrejón from Luis vidal + arquitectos

1. What was the original concept?

The concept and purpose of the project, has always been to generate an architectural icon, with its own identity that visually transmits the new image of Studio Legal Terrero & Mejía. We relied on the concepts of future, innovation, and quality, to achieve a greater presence at street level.

2. How did you approach the project?

The refurbishment was carried out on an existing single-storey building, which had a very basic image, and without any particular identity. Taking advantage of the characteristics of the materials, we created an interior space, which offered a greater feeling of size and lightness, via reflections and choices of materials. Inside, we eliminated any elements that distorted our global objective, unifying the materials used and introducing a small extension, used by both the reception and waiting rooms.

3. How was the vision eventually realized?

Our objective was to create a flexible workspace area, surrounded by a unique facade, as well as, a waiting room that departed from the initial design geometry. These elements, when viewed in concert, pays homage to the over-all design theme. The result aims to reflect the evolution and growth of Studio Legal Terrero & Mejía, and their constant effort, to advance their offering of – best professional services. We also wanted the new offices to acquire an identity, which would honor the memory of the past, and in-turn become a point of reference at both national and regional levels.

4. How did the geography of the area affect the design?

The environment, is an orthogonal plot of irregular buildings, in terms of both scale and morphology. This plot provided us with a good opportunity, to create a risky but unique proposal, for the city of Santo Domingo.

5. How did the geography of the area effect construction, were there any challenges and were there any unforeseen benefits, etc.?

The plot presented, basic urbanization of concrete floors and buildings, and had no apparent design value. Based on this, we worked on the transformation of these elements through simple, but very effective design operations.

6. How did Danpalon (another system) contribute to the aesthetic creation of the vision?

The characteristics of the material and its technical qualities, were perfect for us, to create a new image for Studio Legal Terrero & Mejía. The ability to construct the envelope, whilst simultaneously carrying out other works, is invaluable and further reinforced our material choice. An almost endless variety of colors and textures, allowed us to generate a balanced array for the volume. In addition, the material was utilized, not only on the building’s exterior but in the interior as well. This brought much-needed coherence to the discourse of the various routes and offered a fresh, updated image of the spaces.

7. How did Danpatherm Systems help create the vision/build technically?

The chosen system allowed us to bet on a dry construction system, with prefabricated elements, which offered the advantage of rapid execution.

8. What surprised you about the building at the end?

Once the set was designed, we knew what we would find in the end. What really happened, was that we found that the decisions we made, had been right all along.
One thing that was especially gratifying, was to discover that the reflections of the sky on the material, were very defined. This effect, allowed the building to capture the clouds in the Dominican sky, offering back to us, light and evocative image.

9. What if anything, surprised you about the Danpal systems?

The most surprising thing was to discover in situ, the aesthetic qualities of the material. Its finishes and nuances offer us, a wide range of possibilities for its use, to intensify the design-load on buildings.

10. Has the material worked the way you expected in your original expectations?

In general, the material has exceeded all expectations.

Reafirmando Lazos, Una Entrevista Con Edgar Solano Gerente General Construcciones Planificadas S.A.

Desde hace más de 6 años el equipo de Danpal ha establecido grandes lazos con una de las empresa de Diseño y Construcción más grande de Colombia, Construcciones Planificadas S.A., en cabeza de su Gerente General el Arquitecto Edgar Solano, uno de los Arquitectos más reconocidos del país, quien cuenta con una experiencia de más de 20 años en diseño arquitectónico y urbano, gerencia, dirección, gestión, coordinación de proyectos urbanos y arquitectónicos, así como en gestión pública, procesos licitatorios de contratación público privada y supervisión arquitectónica de contratos de diseño.

Algunos ejemplos de los proyectos trabajados por el Arquitecto Edgar Solano son: La Ciudad Empresarial Sarmiento Angulo (torres 3 y 4), megaproyecto en donde está ubicado el Hotel Grand Hyatt, un escenario envuelto por un diseño paisajístico que juega con la ubicación de sus edificaciones, pensados desde los conceptos bioclimáticos y de sostenibilidad, Alsacia Reservado 1-2 y 3, proyecto de vivienda con una extensión de 108.000 metros cuadrados, La Torre de Avianca, proyecto institucional con más de 34.000 metros cuadrados, entre otros, trabajos que han aportado a la construcción de una carrera llena de distinciones entre las cuales se destaca una Mención de Proyecto Arquitectónico en la XX Bienal Colombiana de Arquitectura y otros premios en concursos públicos y privados gracias a los proyectos en los que ha sido participe.

Gracias al trabajo conjunto de a lo largo de los años, hemos logrado desarrollar grandes proyectos como: Cervería Bavaria Tocancipá, Edificio de Ciencia y Tecnología Biblioteca Luis Carlos Sarmiento en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, El Centro Empresarial y Deportivo Colsubsidio, Centro Comercial El Edén, entre otros, encontrando soluciones innovadoras en el aprovechamiento de la luz natural, desde la conceptualización de los proyectos, pasando por todo el proceso de diseño, especificación, acompañamiento y posterior construcción de los mismos.

El último proyecto desarrollado por parte de Danpal y Construcciones Planificadas S.A. es El Centro Comercial El Edén, un proyecto en el que se empelaron múltiples soluciones de cubiertas, fachadas y cerramientos, que aportan diseño e iluminación natural a los cerca de 162.000 metros cuadrados que constituyen el proyecto en su primera etapa y sobre el cual el Arquitecto Solano nos entrega algunas impresiones:

“Los primeros dibujos de este proyecto son de fácilmente hace 8 o 9 años, ahí es donde uno ve como un proyecto de estos evoluciona en el tiempo en todo sentido, al final la Arquitectura se vuelve un servicio en un proyecto de estos. Aquí logramos conjugar todo, una Arquitectura emblemática en términos de su imagen, generosa con el espacio público y comercialmente muy exitosa” – Arq. Edgar Solano.

Hablando de Danpal, ¿Por qué se decidió por esta solución y que beneficios obtuvo al utilizar nuestras soluciones en este proyecto?

Yo creo que más que la solución es el acompañamiento que recibimos. Hemos intentado buscar empresas que se vuelvan aliadas, no nos interesan los vendedores de biblias, entonces, ese acompañamiento de planos de detalle, despieces, pruebas, muestras, aplicaciones. Lo que uno necesita es un acompañamiento técnico más que otra cosa.

¿Cuáles fueron los principales retos para la implementación de nuestra solución en el proyecto?

No es la primera vez que utilizamos policarbonato para fachadas y en El Edén Centro Comercial queríamos lograr que ciertos elementos del volumen se destacaran. Llegamos a la conclusión de que la mejor solución para reducir la carga térmica del edificio y lograr una iluminación natural controlada, era el Policarbonato. Además de lo ligero que es, esto también ayuda reduciendo el peso por metro cuadrado, logrando que las estructuras también sean livianas; son decisiones amarradas todas, la idea era generar una Arquitectura muy liviana en todo sentido, en su imagen, sus materiales y en su sistema constructivo. También es muy importante cómo vive el proyecto en el tiempo, esa es la hoja de vida de ustedes al igual que la nuestra.

¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de ser Arquitecto?

Yo creo que la Arquitectura es mágica, en el sentido en que un papel en blanco se vuelve un lugar ocupado por gente. Ese papel en blanco, llevado a la realidad a través de un dibujo, que en el proceso se vuelve técnico, constructivo y después es habitado y usado. A mí eso me parece mágico, absolutamente mágico.

Como resultado del trabajo desarrollado entre Danpal y Construcciones planificadas se logró un proyecto orientado a la sostenibilidad, teniendo impactos positivos en el ahorro energético y de agua, con unos porcentajes aproximados al 26% y 50% respectivamente, además de un impacto social importante, generando alrededor de 3.000 nuevos empleos en la zona. El Eden es un espacio pensado para lograr la mezcla perfecta entre retail y entretenimiento, ofreciendo a sus visitantes espacios donde la luz natural en el día y el color de su fachada en la noche son protagonistas.

Centro Comercial El Edén, La magia de la arquitectura

El Centro Comercial El Edén, ubicado en la ciudad de Bogotá, Colombia, contó con una inversión de US$170 millones, de los cuales US$17 millones fueron designados para obras de urbanismo alrededor del proyecto que incluye temas de movilidad, arborización y seguridad. Con un área total de 320.000 m2, de los cuales 162.000 m2 construidos en su primera etapa promete ser uno de los Centros Comerciales más grandes de Latinoamérica y uno de los más grandes del Colombia.

El centro comercial cuenta con tres niveles, 1.800 parqueaderos, 223 locales comerciales, más de 13.000 metros cuadrados de calles comerciales y cerca de 30.000 metros cuadrados en áreas de entretenimiento, de los cuales 8.000 metros estarán destinados para las plazoletas de comida y restaurantes.

El proyecto se enfoca en el entretenimiento, siguiendo las tendencias actuales en este tema de implementar una mezcla entre el retail y entretenimiento. La construcción también plantea una serie de beneficios sostenibles como el ahorro de energía y agua, que se espera sea del 26% y 50%, respectivamente. La escogencia de las soluciones de iluminación natural para cubiertas y fachadas Danpal radica en el desempeño de nuestro material frente a los valores “U”, el perfecto balance térmico y lumínico, la calidad de nuestros sistemas, su garantía y el excelente acompañamiento en todo el proceso desde la especificación hasta la instalación.

Desarrollado por Construcciones planificadas, el proyecto cuenta con una fachada de 1.959 m2 color Opal 16mm (TP Facade System) así como con una Cubierta de 2.898 m2 color Ice 16 mm (Spacer Roofing System) y un sistema de cerramientos de 686m2 en panel de 12mm color ice.

El Arquitecto Santiago Fonseca, uno de los responsables de llevar a cabo este proyecto nos cuenta a continuación algunas de sus impresiones y experiencias en torno a la arquitectura, el proyecto y las soluciones de Danpal.

¿Qué es lo que más le ha emocionado de trabajar en el Proyecto del Centro Comercial El Edén?

“Para mí, es el primer proyecto al servicio de un volumen tan grande de gente; yo había hecho edificios de oficinas, archivos, colegios, centros culturales, pero nunca un Centro Comercial que visitan miles de personas al día. Para mí lo más emocionante fue el día de la inauguración ver el volumen de gente entrando al proyecto y disfrutándolo. Ha sido muy exitoso y la comunidad lo ha acogido muy bien, realmente se volvió en lo que queríamos que fuera, el Centro Comercial del barrio, eso ha sido lo más satisfactorio para mí.”

¿Qué importancia le da al uso de la iluminación natural dentro de este y en general en sus proyectos?

Para este proyecto fue fundamental haber podido traer luz natural a los corredores y a las plazoletas, eso le cambió la cara al proyecto. Tan es así que en las zonas que no quedaron con luz natural se quejaban porque sentían que no era suficiente a nivel de iluminación, porque realmente logramos traer el sol, el color y la luz de Bogotá al interior.

Hablando de Danpal, ¿Por qué se decidió por esta solución y que beneficios obtuvo al utilizar nuestras soluciones en este proyecto?

Analizamos en el proceso distintos productos y escogimos Danpal por la calidad, el blanco absoluto que tenía el material para las fachadas y el bajo mantenimiento. En el caso de las cubiertas fue por el desempeño del material y su garantía; logramos los factores “U” que requeríamos en el interior y el aislamiento térmico, maximizando las áreas de apertura, de transparencia o traslucidez en la cubierta. El costo, también tenía un valor importante y una solución en vidrio con control solar no habría sido viable para el proyecto.

¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de ser Arquitecto?

Es la posibilidad de crear espacios funcionales para el gozo de la gente y ver a la gente disfrutándolos, yo creo que eso es lo más motivante y emocionante. La vivencia de la gente en un espacio que uno ha conceptualizado de alguna manera, eso es lo más emocionante para mí.

Hangar 5, iluminación natural al servicio de la aviación

Ubicado en Ezeiza, Argentina y diseñado ASZ arquitectos y MZM arquitectos, Aerolineas Argentinas ha puesto en funcionamiento uno de los hangares mas modernos de la región, con una superficie de 12.017m2, y un sistema de puentes grúa que barren el área central del hangar cubriendo el fuselaje de la aeronave y sus laterales.

El proyecto “Hangar 5” permitirá trabajar simultáneamente en 2 aeronaves de “fuselaje ancho” o bien sobre cuatro Boeing 737 de la serie 800 y MAX; el edificio fue diseñado de forma amigable con el medio ambiente al contar con un alto nivel de iluminación natural basado en sistemas traslúcidos de fachada danpal, una iluminación led de bajo consumo y un sistema de reutilización de aguas de lluvia para trabajos de limpieza, entre otros.

En las próximas líneas, los arquitectos diseñadores del proyecto nos comparten su experiencia en torno al proyecto:

¿Cuál fue el concepto original?

El concepto consiste básicamente de un edificio contenedor metálico que permite alojar y realizar tareas de mantenimiento mayor en su interior al avión comercial más grande del mundo: el Airbus 380.

¿Cómo fue el enfoque en este proyecto?

Se debió considerar todas las restricciones de altura del edificio establecidas por las autoridades aeronáuticas, y también las dimensiones de los aviones que condicionaban el diseño de la estructura, los portones, pavimentos, etc. La altura máxima del edificio estaba limitada por las restricciones de una futura pista cercana al hangar.

¿Cómo se realizó la visión?

Con el fin de prestar servicios de mantenimiento a su flota de aeronaves, la Compañía Aerolíneas Argentinas, incluyo en su plan de negocios, el diseño y construcción de un Hangar en un sector de la Planta Industrial que poseen en Ezeiza. Los primeros hangares fueron construidos hace 65 años con lo cual fue indispensable adaptarse a nuevos requerimientos de mantenimiento y para aeronaves de mayor porte.

¿Cómo la geografía del área afecta el diseño?

Se trata de un edificio de aproximadamente 10.000 m2 de planta situado frente a la pista de rodaje. Su implantación debía respetar los retiros reglamentarios de 50 metros a dicha pista y a las plataformas laterales.

¿Cómo afectó la construcción la geografía del área: desafíos, beneficios imprevistos, etc.?

El espacio a ocupado se encontraba vacío, con restos de aeronaves abandonadas y relleno de sobrante de tierra de antiguas obras. Fue indispensable hacer relevamientos con georadar para detectar posibles interferencias, tanto de instalaciones vigentes como en desuso.

¿Cómo contribuyó el sistema danpal a crear estéticamente la visión?

Desde el primer momento tuvimos la intención de generar un contenedor metálico ciego, que pudiese tener la mayor ganancia de luz natural sobre su frente y portones. La intención fue también entrar en diálogo con los hangares existentes, que son muy diferentes en su morfología, pero que tienen este mismo concepto de iluminación natural. Sobre el frente del edificio se ubica un portón metálico de ocho hojas de 10mx25m cada uno, que corren hacia los laterales sobre guías y rieles. Estos portones están revestidos en Danpalon para complementar el ingreso de luz natural de los lucernarios.

¿Cómo ayudó la solución ofrecida por Danpal a crear la construcción técnicamente?

La solución de Danpal se ajustó perfectamente a los requerimientos y secuencia constructiva. Aunque fue un trabajo complicado, por el trabajo en altura y los vientos de la zona, su montaje fue rápido y prolijo.

¿Qué les sorprendió del edificio una vez terminado?

Sorprendió positivamente la buena difusión de la luz y el buen nivel de iluminación natural producido por las lucarnas y portones. Se propuso un sistema de lucernarios lineales de Danpalon para garantizar el ingreso de luz natural en toda la superficie del hangar.

¿Que les llamó la atención o les sorprende sobre el Danpalon?

La estética general que el producto le otorgó a la obra es muy interesante. Claramente es un elemento que lo convierte en un proyecto contemporáneo.

¿Cómo encontraron trabajando con Danpal y Dicky, tanto lo bueno como malo?

El asesoramiento de Dicky y Danpal fue muy bueno, tanto en la etapa de proyecto como durante la ejecución de los trabajos.

¿El material ha funcionado de la manera que esperaba en sus expectativas originales?

El material superó las expectativas previstas. En una megaestructura como esta, el material potenció sus características.

¿Qué comentarios tienen sobre el sistema Danpal ?

Es un material muy versátil. Se puede utilizar tanto para obras nuevas como de rehabilitación y siempre dando una imagen actual y tecnológica.

¿Cómo fue su experiencia con la marca?

La experiencia con fue muy satisfactoria y lo vamos a tener en cuenta en el futuro para nuevos desafíos

¿Que comentarios tienen sobre el asesoramiento y servicios prestados por la compañía?

Fue muy completo el asesoramiento. Contamos con muestras de muchos de sus productos que nos ayudaron a elegir bien los elementos para el proyecto. También contamos con buen material gráfico y escrito para resolver todos los temas técnicos.

¿Recomendaría la marca a otros colegas, cual es el rasgo que destaca de nuestra empresa?

Sin dudas recomendaría sus productos a otros colegas y consideramos que es un producto que tiende al ahorro del consumo de energía y la vez se consigue una imagen arquitectónica muy actual.

Danpatherm – The Bearer of Light

As architecture moves forward, buildings face the ever-evolving challenge of, how to stand-out among the crowd. As a supplier, Danpal has a potential answer, and we refer to it as Danpatherm. This cassette-based concept gives us the opportunity to use our Danpatherm K7 and Danpatherm K12 based façade solutions, as carriers for advanced LED lighting systems. This trick of lighting is unique in our market, and is what allows the Danpatherm Façade System to ‘stand-out from the crowd’.

Danpatherm Let’s take a step back for a moment, so we can understand what sets the K7 and K12 façade solution, apart from other translucent offerings. The Danpatherm design concept relies on the implementation of fully finished off pre-fabricated cassettes, which are flanked by Danpalon panels covering each face. These double-glazed units are sealed-off against external elements and arrive on-site, sized and ready for installation. Having the finished product arrive on-site, drastically reduces both the man-power and man-hours need for a successful installation.

So we have established that time on site can be reduced, and that the cassettes arrive fully completed, negating the need for additional engineering on site. The next attribute to consider, which is key to our Danpatherm system, is that in our case, double-glazing means that you can remove either the exterior or interior face of the cassette, without compromising the weather line. When considering long-term maintenance issues, this ability will become both ever more important and impressive. Can you imagine the cost implications of needing to have an entire façade removed, and in doing so, compromise the building’s occupants?


The next more obvious point to cover, is that by using two Danpalon microcell panels, together in a single cassette – we can more than double the U-Value! More than double the u-value, just how is this possible, you might ask? Well, by separating the 2 Danpalon panels with an air-gap, we have essentially trapped a layer of air, as additional insulation. Still not enough, how about using the cassette as a carrier for glass fibre insulation material, and achieving a u-value of 0.52 W/m2 K! A point to remember is that even by adding in the insulation material, we are still able to achieve measurable levels of light transmission.

Now, if it wasn’t enough that a single façade system type, could offer all these attributes, with some of them being completely unique – K7 and K12 can also bring you LED light! To achieve this highly technical feat of engineering, Danpal partnered with LED lighting experts, who together developed a bespoke lighting solution for the Danpatherm cassette module. The solution is comprised of separate IP67 outdoor certified LED units, each with the capability to produce a full spectrum of both colored and white light.

What does this mean for an architect, and what does this mean for their next building project? It means that the architect now has the power to uniquely transform the very face of the building, into a vivid display of light! A display of light that reflects the architect’s intention and that speaks the design language of the building. A perfect example of this technology in use can be seen in use, in the Antel Arena in Uruguay. This multi-purpose indoor sports arena, can cater for up to 15 000 people and lights up the night time sky, with a light display visible from miles around.

Perhaps it is time that we re-think our view on Danpatherm, and in the process, rediscover the magic of LED light displays. To look upon our projects with an eye for, what might be and what can be done, by approaching the design with a ‘child-like’ openness to the ‘impossible’. At Danpal, we have a habit of turning the impossible into reality, by allowing our clients the magic, to design with light. We call this… Light Architecture!

Looking back over the year we have just shared, I am proud to be in the position I am, and to tell you that DANPAL has successfully risen to meet the year’s challenges head-on. Running a global world-class operation is no easy task, and so my focus is continually split between the operations, logistics, production, sales and the marketing of our DANPAL solutions.

With the right team at my side, together, we have faced and overcome issues such as currency instability, slow economies and political unrest – prevalent in some of our global markets. DANPAL is a private company and so by its very nature, we are often exposed to these poor market conditions. The key to our continued strong growth has always been, to focus on the fundamentals of what makes our company so great… by this, I am referring to our employees.

It is by having the right people in the right places, that DANPAL has been able to successfully evolve from being a panel-based manufacturing company, into the global leader in daylight solutions for the building envelope. You have all heard this term before, but it bears repeating – ‘Light Architecture’!

We have invested heavily in developing exciting new products, such as our RK7 Roofing System, the DP650 and exotic Danpalon Kinetic Panels. These are but a part of the reason, why we are today the world market leaders in our field. These new products launched in 2019 are not by chance, but are rather the result of intense research and development, carried out by our in-house engineers. Our R&D team, with their years of expertise, keep us ahead of the game and leaders in the industry.

Despite the tough market conditions, the year has seen us establish new subsidiaries, such as DANPAL India. Whilst on the other side of the globe in Colombia, we took the decision to partner with our distributors, and buy controlling shares in their business. So we look forward to the growth opportunities that both DANPAL Andina, and DANPAL India, will bring us in 2020.

Some of you might remember the conferences we hosted in both Thailand, for our Asia-Pacific partners and the Dominican Republic, attended by our Latin American partners. These conferences have provided us with the platforms needed, to engage directly with our global DANPAL family. During the days spent together, our team of DANPAL experts have offered up their expertise to further educate our distributors and installers.

2019 has also seen us achieve many international performance certifications, for our various systems. This continuous drive to meet new standards has been necessary for keeping us positioned as market leaders, ahead of the competition. An example of this has been our GREEN certification, bestowed on us by both the relevant Israeli and Australian authorities. We won’t stop there, as, in 2020, mush of our R&D is focused on Next-Generation Green Solutions.

2020 Our Future Together

So what can we expect from DANPAL in 2020? I can tell you, that my focus is to drive our key programmes to deliver both expert marketing and unsurpassed technical support. DANPAL understands how important it is for us to engage professionally with the market, and that our subsidiaries along with our distributors are the face of the company.

With this in mind, we have invested heavily in the development of cutting edge digital marketing tools, as well as, employing the right support staff to help implement our global strategies. One of our more exciting projects in development will see 2020 as the year we officially launch our very own BIM library. As you might know, BIM is becoming ever more relevant in the architectural market and our responsibility is to lead the industry in this endeavour. At our core, we develop and supply architectural products, and so I am happy to tell you, that our range of bespoke solutions will continue to reflect this.

We have other products in our R&D pipeline, which we will continue to perfect throughout the year… Without giving the game away, I can say that these systems in development, are geared toward the global GREEN BUILDING trend. Our next-generation DANPAL solutions will go a long way to futureproofing your offerings. We believe in developing for the long-term, whilst supporting our partners in their day-to-day endeavours.

uninorteEn el año 2012, en el norte de Colombia especificamente en la ciudad de Barranquilla, una zona costera, con una presencia importante de vientos de gran velocidad y un clima caracterizado por sus altas temperaturas, la Universidad del Norte (Uninorte) tuvo graves problemas con las cubiertas de uno de sus accesos mas importantes, cuando por una rafaga de viento, salio volando un pedazo de su cubierta. En ese momento Ilegaron a Danpal Andina buscando una solucion inmediata y de calidad para su inconveniente.

¿Oué es to que mas le gusta de ser Arquitecto?

Pienso que una de las razones principales por las que soy Arquitecto es por el poder materializar los sueños, plasmarlos de una manera en la que todos to puedan disfrutar y creo que definitivamente nosotros nacimos para este fin.

¿Cuales son los proyectos que mas le apasionan?

Pienso que no hay proyectos que me apasionen mas que otros, todos los proyectos me apasionan. Nosotros nos hemos visto involucrados en tantos escenarios, que realmente nosotros nos vemos apasionados hasta con diseñar una cuchara, no sé, el entramado de un piso, el enchape, todo, todo es bello de trabajar y es apasionante.

¿Como define Arquitectura en una sola palabra?

Es un poco complicado o dificil definirla en una sola palabra, sin embargo la podria llegar a definir como Arte, para mi La Arquitectura es Arte.

¿Oué es lo que mas le ha emocionado de trabajar en el Proyecto del Acceso 7 de Uninorte?

El abordar el proyecto del ACCESO T de La Universidad del Norte fue un reto, generar recordacion, fue realmente de ahi de donde nacio el elemento inspirador, y precisamente es ahi donde vas a encontrar respuestas a tu pregunta. Nosotros iniciamos el proyecto al proponer una cubierta en un entorno donde esta totalmente arborizado, entonces investigamos y encontramos que los Mayas tienen en las mariposas las conductoras de sus pensamientos hacia los dioses, fue ahi donde comenzamos a pensar que si tenemos un entorno arborizado, que mejor que posar mari- posas sobre estos arboles, por eso si te das cuenta, las estructuras de la cubierta son unos arboles, y que mas bonito que enriquecer el entorno con unas mariposas de colores. Pensar que un estudiante ingresa, que transmite sus sueños, que viene cargado de ellos y viene cargado de todo ese tipo de pensamientos, y podérselo transmitir, no sé, asi como los Mayas, pensando en un ser celestial que pensaban que transmitfan todos sus suenos atreves de las mariposas fue to mas emocionante y el caracter que le quisimos dar al proyecto.

Hablando de Danpal, ¿Por qué se decidié por esta solucion y que beneficios obtuvo al utilizar nuestras soluciones en este proyecto?

Bueno, Danpal es una marca que se caracteriza por su calidad, son una marca de respaldo, que mas que esa razon de peso, ya esta.

Cuando uno trabaja con materiales de calidad los resultados seran de calidad, nosotros como Arquitectos siempre buscamos eso, que todo to que uno diseña siempre queden construidos con to mejor, si tu estas trabajando con una empresa que tiene respaldo estas tranquilo y eso es to que nos ofrece y produce Danpal Andina, tranquilidad y respaldo.

¿Oué es to que mas le gusta de ser Arquitecto?

Creo que to que me gusta de ser Arquitecto es plasmar los bocetos en una realidad, ver como se empiezan a volver realidad esas ideas que estaban plasmadas en un papel y como la gente las disfruta posteriormente.

¿Cuales son los proyectos que mas le apasionan?

En realidad todos los proyectos, hasta el desarrollo y diseño de una baranda, es tan sencillo como eso, por ejemplo, el diseño interior que nunca to habiamos trabajado aca también tenemos la posibilidad de hacerlo. La Universidad nos da las herramientas y nos da rienda suelta para ser creativos y explorar todo to que nosotros sonamos, es apasionante y nunca se nos pone freno a nada.

¿CuaI es su sueno como Arquitecto?

El sueno realmente se da y se vive constantemente, sobre todo cuando se ve materializado un sueño, eso te llenan de orgullo.

¿Como define Arquitectura en una sola palabra?

Lo haria mediante dos palabras que creo resumen to que pienso, y esas dos palabras son ¨Materializar suenos¨.

¿Qué es Io que mas le ha emocionado de trabajar en el Proyecto del Acceso 7 de Uninorte?

Realmente pienso que fue un reto, es uno de los ingresos principales a la Universidad y poder lograr hacer una propuesta que fuera util, agradable, que cause, no solamente pensado desde el impacto de un producto que sirva, sino que sea ademas sea un proyecto que genere recordacion, que sea agradable, que sea bonito, que sea impactante, ese reto es to que emociona mas, me entiendes? Eso fue realmente lo mas emocionante al abordar un proyecto como éste


Hablando de Danpal, ¿Por qué se decidio por esta solucion y que deneficios obtuvo al utilizar nuestras soluciones en este proyecto?

En primer lugar cabe resaltar que en el ano 2012 no conociamos mucho de ustedes, trabajabamos con otra marca y cuando ocurrio lo del problema fue demasiado grave, literalamente los paneles salieron volando porque las camaras de aire de esos paneles se llenaron de aire y volaron por toda la Universidad. Ahora, y siendo consecuente con lo dicho anteriormente yo opino que para mi es muy importante el termosellado que ustedes manejan. Si los hubieramos conocido mas a fondo en el 2012 créanme que no hubieramos pasado por una no muy buena experiencia como la vivida con la marca anterior.

K 2019, The World’s No. 1 Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber, was held in Düsseldorf from 16 to 23 October 2019. The trade fair, is the performance barometer and global innovations marketplace for the entire industry, presenting over 3,300 exhibitors from more than 60 countries on approximately 178,000 m² of exhibition space. K 2019 featured lectures, keynotes and panel discussions, by experts from science, industry, politics, local authorities and non-governmental organizations. By featuring this broad panel of experts, they could deliver on global, European, regional and local answers to some of the mega-trends in society, currently impacting people.

The 9th edition of the EPSE Awards Competition was also announced on the 21st of October 2019 at the K Fair in Düsseldorf. After a warm welcome, the EPSE President introduced EPSE formally to all attendees and highlighted the main goals of the association: innovation, development, and quality. Before long, the evening reached its climax, when DANPAL was announced as winners in the category of INNOVATION. The award was proudly received, and seen as recognition for our efforts in bringing our Danpalon KINETIC panel to life!

It is DANPAL’s leadership in innovation that shone through, as taking top honors and winning the category for innovation, was no small feat. Our KINETIC panel is a first of its kind, with our color-shift technology, opening the doors for truly unique design possibilities. While the physical performance of our panels is never in question, the focus to develop a panel with unique aesthetic appeal would always be a challenge. Fortunately, DANPAL has a very active internal R&D team of engineers who were up to the task!

A project such as this spends sometimes years in development, behind the scenes, constantly being worked upon. For good reason, these projects are kept secret and receive no media attention, until our new product is ready for launch. Such was the case with Danpalon KINETIC, a panel type that allows you, to have the best of both worlds. We are excited to see the limits of our new panel, as architects develop conceptual designs, with KINETIC in mind.

10 Years of Achievements Celebrated at Danpal Mexico

October 2019 saw the 10th anniversary of our subsidiary, Danpal Mexico, led by their General Manager Mr. Hector Avila, who was also in attendance. This momentous occasion was held on the 51st floor of La Torre Mayor, one of the most iconic buildings in Mexico City, and was well-supported by all the top Mexican architectural firms. The firms represented, were in attendance by invitation only and included; Sordo Madaleno Architects, VFO Architects, GROW Architects, Arditti + RDT Architects, Moyao Architects, DIN Interior Design, Eclipse architects and Oxigeno architects, among others.

The evening rolled forward, as our team headed by Mr. Avila, highlighted their efforts and direction. A number of initiatives implemented by Mr. Avila and his team, have shown great success in both promoting the Danpal brand, and in developing their local market. In truth, they have been able to successfully create a much larger market for our Danpalon based systems, partly by focusing on specifications unique to Danpal.

The ability to create unique specification, is an immensely powerful tool that our competitors cannot equally match, and which directly speaks to the needs of today’s architects. Today we speak the language of Green Building, sustainability, carbon emissions, and energy efficiency, because this is the language that today’s construction professionals understand. To do this effectively, we must understand the market, understand the possibilities of our systems and direct our efforts towards creating these new specifications for the market.

Also making an appearance, all the way from Colombia was the General Manager of Danpal Andina, Luis Fernando Rodriguez and his special guest the very recognized Colombian Architect Mr. Juan Felipe Cadavid. In addition, we welcomed the special participation of architect Mr. Han Young Keun. President of the Korean Institute of Architects and director of our official subsidiary, Danpal Korea.

Those in attendance at our closed event, were treated to a special talk, put together and delivered by Mr. Han. The talk focused on our concept of Light Architecture, its benefits and how this integrates with modern-day thinking on daylight, as an element in architecture. The evening then became a great opportunity to introduce the local architects, to these principals of daylighting, and how to possibly introduce this into their projects.

In an era where energy efficiency, carbon footprints, and Green Building Concepts is leading the global building trends, Mr. Han’s talk was most welcomed. The effect on those in the audience was pronounced, as a renewed sense of purpose, filled the air. It is at events such as this, where cultures and perspectives combine, to bring about leaps in creative thinking by our global Danpal family.

The 10-year marker also was not only an opportunity for Mr. Avila and his team to reflect back on their achievements, but also, to set a renewed focus on delivering on our company’s core objectives. Our Latin American counterparts, recommitted their efforts, to bring the principles of ‘Light Architecture’ to influencers in their region. To provide both technical and marketing support, directly to the professionals who need it most for their projects. Lastly, to always seek out the most effective Danpal solution for their customers, delivered with a smile, the Danpal way.

  1. 10 years and Danpal Mexico, has grown into a major contributor, to our global sales effort. Please introduce yourself, and tell us a little more about both you and your team?

 Hello, my name is Héctor Ávila Díaz, a Civil Engineer by trade, who after 9 years in the plastics and adhesives industry, took the initiative and started my own company – Tecnoimpacto. I ran Tecnoimpacto for 20 years, we specialized in dealing with various brands of polycarbonates, acrylics, sealants, and architectural panels – but always with a focus on quality over price.

In 2009 I chose to close Tecnoimpacto, and together in a joint venture with Danpal Israel, formed Danpal-TI. From then on, I have focused almost exclusively on Danpal Systems, and on instilling the values of responsibility, professionalism, and loyalty, within my team. I can also say with great satisfaction that during this time, most of my employees, have gone on to put down their very own roots in the company, often permanently. I mention this with pride, as I believe that this stability has allowed the company to move forward with both a sense of confidence and purpose.

  1. Looking back at the past 10 years, what can you tell us about your market in Mexico, and how has it changed/evolved?

 The construction industry in Mexico is an important indicator of the ‘state of health’ of our economy, and as such, reflects any instability within the country. Our politics, a major influencer of our economy, has unfortunately not created the conditions conducive, to attract the amounts of investment needed. However, despite this, we have enjoyed an influx of private investment into maquiladoras, shopping centers, educational institutions, corporate transnationals, and other real estate developments. This has created a niche market, which demands higher quality construction materials that are positioned above the “price war”, and this is where DANPALON features.

  1. What would you say have been the major challenges, which you have had to overcome, in your market? If possible, can you also elaborate on the strategy that you employed, to overcome them?

We positioned our Danpal systems against the backdrop of, a range of traditional polycarbonate sheeting, available in the Mexican market. These sheets, have been traditionally known for their low prices, but inferior quality, and so we developed a strategy to combat this. We focused instead on our product’s superior quality, leading performance and recommitted ourselves to provide the best service possible to our customers.

As a result, we can say with great satisfaction that today, the Danpal brand is recognized as such within our industry and is in high demand. Each and every country has its own unique market conditions, but we recognized that we had to target the top architects in Mexico and introduce them to the superior advantages of Danpal.

  1. Many a time, we hear from distributors, that their market is not advanced enough for our more sophisticated panels or systems. Mexico, is also considered to be a developing country, how is it that you have found such success? For example – with selling our more advanced 3DLITE panels?

 As mentioned already, we recognized that the traditional limitations in the Mexican market is the tendency for projects to prioritize price over quality. We realized, however, that our Danpal systems, are not direct competitors to these cheaper products. For this reason, our efforts have been to position our products above this segment, toward more profitable projects that demand higher performance. At this higher level, we do not see much competition and so we are able to obtain better results.

A good example is how we have focused on 3DLITE panels, as its unique design, visually sets itself apart from traditional polycarbonate panels. Of course, we find that the 3DLITE option, has excellent light transmission vs thermal efficiency properties, not to mention stand out aesthetics. Building on this, we have prioritized delivering complete solutions, which include all the engineering necessary for a successful end result. Lastly, on completion of the project, we guarantee all our work beyond that offered by other providers.

  1. Moving forward, what sort of changes do you expect in your local building industry, and how do you envision Danpal Mexico adapting to meet these new challenges?

We foresee, that the sector in which we are already positioned and recognized, will continue to demand solutions of higher quality. However, the market continuously seeks new and ever more efficient products, so the continuous development of new Danpal systems is very important. One area of opportunity we have is in facades, where we offer an economically viable alternative against traditional translucent solutions. Compared to traditional roofing solutions, we have a big advantage because of Danpalon’s balanced LT and thermal properties. So, we believe that this will continue to be a very attractive market for us.

  1. We understand that you have taken bold steps, to prioritize the use of specification, as a tool for securing projects. Can you tell us a little more about this, do you have specially trained employees who take responsibility for this?

 We find that in Mexico, construction companies often tend to manipulate or change specifications, in favor of cheaper but inferior alternatives. This is another reason, why we choose to focus on top architectural firms, as they often have the power to better retain original specification. As a part of our sales cycle, we place a heavy emphasis on specification, which is reflected by our company’s structure. We have a separate department that deals exclusively with the specification, our specifiers also operate at a high-level, which is reflected in their appearance and ability to liaise with top architects.

  1. We have seen the rise of Green building, Sustainability and Energy Efficiency, as global trends in the architectural field. In what way, has this affected both your marketing and your technical efforts? (how have you or are you adapting to the trend)

 The new trend is not only reflected in our segment of the market, but we also find that prospects looking at cheaper solutions are now also seeking ‘Greener’ solutions. The way in which our Danpal systems contribute toward satisfying the need for both natural lighting and thermal control, in a single specification, is definitely in our favor. Other issues such as savings in energy consumption, and the reduction of artificial temperature control, make a Danpal system an attractive alternative.

  1. Lastly, drawing from your experience over the past 10 years, what words of advice can you offer our other global partners who are also in developing countries? Sometimes unstable markets require a more ‘dynamic’ or flexible approach.

My main advice is to never abandon the essence of our Danpal systems, which is that they efficiently INTEGRATE several solutions for a project, into a single product. This presents a Danpal system, in total differentiation against our competition in the market. Which is why I say, that it is not valid to put to Danpal in the same basket, as traditional polycarbonate offerings. This has allowed DANPAL MEXICO, to not only survive but to maintain a strong growth trend.

I firmly believe that each country must develop its own strategy according to its culture, traditions and unique market conditions. The best specification, are those that at the end of the day, are implemented. This is to say that whether it is minimal, or vast and fully-developed if it does not find its way to the right professional in the project… the specification risks being changed.

Providing the Right Light for a Green New World

We find ourselves at the apex, of what can only be considered a Green Revolution within the global building industry. This direction is born out of necessity and is fostering the development of new and innovative green technologies. Shouldering collective responsibility, as a nation of peoples, both first and third world countries alike are seeking better and more sustainable ways to build their cities.

In the continuing research and development by leading global institutions, it has been shown time and time again, what we deep-down already know… that nature knows best. It is best that we as human beings, born of a natural world, strive to keep rooted in our earthly environment as much as is feasible. What does this mean you might ask, and what does it have to do with our built environment?

Well, let’s consider just what it is that life needs to thrive in this world, what are these elements? How about Natural Sunlight, Clean Air, Fresh Water, and Protection Against the Elements. A recent study, looking at just one of these elements (natural daylight), crucial for the quality of life in our modern age, provides us with some interesting data. According to the study conducted by Alan Hedge, a professor in the Department of Design and Environmental Analysis at Cornell, workers in daylit office environments reported an 84 percent drop in symptoms of eyestrain, headaches and blurred vision symptoms, which can detract from productivity.

Furthermore, key findings from the study include:

Controlled daylight unlocks significant health and wellness benefits for office workers. Workers in office environments with optimized natural light reported an 84 percent drop in symptoms of eyestrain, headaches and blurred vision symptoms, which often result from prolonged computer and device use at work and can detract from productivity.

  • More natural light translates to more alert employees. Workers in offices with smart glass reported a 10 percent decrease in drowsiness.
  • Enhanced individual performance is tied to access to natural light. Workers sitting close to a window that optimized daylight exposure reported a 2 percent increase in productivity – the equivalent of an additional $100,000/year of value for every 100 workers or around $2m over the window’s lifetime.


  • Natural light creates a better indoor experience. Workers in offices with smart glass reported a 40 percent increase in daylight quality. Lack of daylight and access to views decreases the ability of the eye to relax and recover from fatigue. Additionally, workers in proximity to windows report 80 percent higher daylight satisfaction.

It is data derived from studies such as these, as well as, the acknowledgment that we are responsible for safeguarding our world for the generations to come that is fuelling our Green New Future. Recently, when pushed on the subject matter, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio had the following to say, “All-glass facade skyscrapers, are incredibly inefficient, as so much energy escapes through the glass. Our glass buildings are the No. 1 cause of greenhouse emissions in New York.”

According to sources, the Mayor intends on introducing a bill banning new construction of glass skyscrapers, as part of his efforts to reduce citywide greenhouse emissions by 30 percent. De Blasio says the bill would require existing glass buildings to be retrofitted to meet new stricter carbon-emissions guidelines. This is part of what is being called “The Green New Deal”, proposed by the Democratic Party, and is a looking-glass for our collective future.

So where does this leave us, how do we get both the benefit of natural daylight, whilst at the very same time, reduce our reliance on traditional glass-façade buildings? Here, we must be bold and seek out those solutions that will not compromise on delivering both our much needed natural light, as well as, reduce the carbon footprint of our buildings. At Danpal, we have made it our responsibility to develop these daylight solutions, and we have made it our business to deliver these systems to the market place.

There are a few key points to consider how we have done this:

Por lo general, los arquitectos eligen instalar un sistema de fachadas en una construcción para alcanzar el objetivo de ahorrar en los costes de electricidad. Lucernarios eficientes que ofrecen protección contra los rayos ultravioleta

La existencia del sol es fundamental para la vida en la Tierra. Es una fuente de calor, de energía, de luz. A pesar de sus cualidades destacas, la luz solar también es la principal fuente de radiación ultravioleta. Los rayos ultravioleta constituyen una pequeña porción del total de los rayos solares, pero son la causa principal de los efectos dañinos producidos por el sol en la piel. En arquitectura, una buena opción para aprovechar las bondades del sol y, al mismo tiempo, proteger a los usuarios de una construcción es optar por la implementación de lucernarios eficientes.

Uno de los modos de crear lucernarios inteligentes es mediante la elección de productos Danpal®. Cubiertas livianas en una cervecería de Colombia

Bavaria es la cervecería más grande de Colombia. En el año 2011, el estudio de arquitectura Construcciones Planificadas dirigió la expansión de la planta de esta empresa. La ampliación se ejecutó a través de varios edificios que cumplen diversas funciones. Estos edificios contienen la sala de cocimiento, la sala de distribución, el laboratorio, la fábrica de tapas y el área de embotellado. Las cubiertas livianas de Danpal® están presentes en este proyecto que tuvo como fin ampliar la capacidad productiva de la principal planta de cervecería en el país.

Las edificaciones de carácter industrial y administrativo diseñadas en 25.000 m2 cuentan con volúmenes simples y rotundos que se definen en dos capas. Estas capas se fusionan de modo armónico con la horizontalidad del paisaje. Una de estas capas es oscura y se posa sobre el plano base, mientras que la otra es de color blanco. Ambas capas son las determinantes de diseño que permiten crear un lenguaje formal y similar para todas las edificaciones, más allá de que cada edificación tiene su carácter particular y distintivo.

El bar tailandés Option Coffee Bar cuenta con una fachada de Danpal®

Option Coffee Bar se encuentra en el centro de la ciudad de Udonthani, en Tailandia. El espacio tiene tres funciones principales como café, restaurante y bar. Durante la mañana, el café se fusiona con una pastelería, al mediodía el lugar se transforma en restaurante y al atardecer se sirve cerveza artesanal. Esta obra arquitectónica cuenta con una fachada realizada a partir de productos Danpal®.

Dado que en el Option Coffee Bar se desarrollan diversas actividades gastronómicas en distintos horarios, el diseño del lugar fue creado teniendo en cuenta la practicidad necesaria para que todas las funciones se desarrollen sin inconvenientes. El espacio está distribuido en dos pisos.

En la planta baja se encuentra la cocina y la barra, mientras que el entrepiso ofrece asientos para los clientes. Para maximizar los lugares, el mobiliario utilizado en el entrepiso puede desplazarse según las necesidades de las personas que concurran. Ambos pisos reciben la luz natural debido a la fachada de policarbonato creada por Danpal®.
