Glens Falls Market Center
Translucent Walls for a Year-Round Civic Marketplace
Located on South Street in downtown Glens Falls, New York, the Glens Falls Market Center was designed by Envision Architects as a year-round venue for events, festivals, and the long-standing Glens Falls Farmers Market. Conceived as a centerpiece of the city’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative, the project anchors a broader vision for South Street: transforming an underutilized corridor into a welcoming civic destination for food, culture, commerce, and community life

Light Defines the Marketplace
Danpal’s translucent wall systems support the project’s balance of performance and atmosphere. Rather than relying on conventional opaque enclosure, the Danpal system allows daylight to become part of the architecture, filtering natural light into the interior while creating a refined exterior expression. The result is a wall assembly that feels open and inviting, while still providing the durability, impact resistance, UV protection, and light diffusion required for a high-use public building. Danpal’s Microcell panel technology is designed to transmit an even diffusion of natural light while supporting thermal performance and long-term strength.
For architects, the Market Center demonstrates how translucent polycarbonate walls can help define a civic environment without sacrificing functional performance. The Danpal system contributes visual softness during the day, reducing the hard contrast often associated with solid wall surfaces, while allowing the building to glow as an active community landmark after dark. Danpal façade systems are designed to illuminate by day and transform into light landmarks at night, giving project teams a powerful tool for shaping identity, wayfinding, and public presence.
The translucent walls also complement the building’s market-driven program. Farmers markets, public events, and festivals require a space that can feel open, flexible, and comfortable across seasons. Danpal’s lightweight, dry-glazed façade approach offers design flexibility for varied building conditions, along with high impact resistance, superior air and water protection, and a broad palette of colors, finishes, and light transmission options.
At the Glens Falls Market Center, daylight is not treated as an afterthought. It becomes a defining material, one that supports wellness, visibility, placemaking, and civic identity. The project shows how Danpal’s translucent wall systems can help architects create public buildings that are technically capable, visually memorable, and deeply connected to the communities they serve.
