CASE STUDIES - Pagliacci Pizza – Bellevue, Washington

Pagliacci Pizza – Bellevue, Washington

INTRODUCTION:

The Pagliacci Pizzeria in Bellevue’s Eastgate neighborhood is a stylish new location designed by Floisand Studio Architects. The project showcases a blend of modern design and innovation, combining aesthetics with functionality. The standout feature of the project is Danpal’s Ventilated Rainscreen System (VRS) – a translucent lightweight panel-based cladding solution that raises the building’s design to a new level of brilliance.

REQUIREMENTS

The design needed to blend aesthetic appeal with practical functionality to create a welcoming environment both inside and outside the building. The exterior required a cladding solution that could offer the nighttime illumination. A combination that would transform the building into a highly recognizable landmark for  local pizza lovers. Additionally, the system would need to provide long-term durability, full UV protection, and robust resistance to all weather conditions, ensuring the façade will stand the test of time.

Aesthetic Integration
Floisand Studio, sought to create a visually distinct design that plays with both natural and artificial light. “The design required a careful balance of maximized street presence with special attention paid to occupant comfort. The building’s footprint was limited to its existing size due to land use restrictions. The VRS cladding and associated overhangs added exterior space and shape to the building. The polycarbonate panels are back lite, which act as a beacon to all weary travelers as they pass by on the freeway.”

Durability and Weather Resistance
The VRS cladding system was selected to deliver more than just aesthetic appeal. The integrated Danpalon panels are tested and rated durable enough to protect the building from harsh environmental conditions yearround, and ensures that the exterior remains both attractive and long-lasting.

RESULTS

Artistic Integration
Floisand Studio Architects skillfully implemented the inclusion of the VRS Cladding System, which comprises translucent Danpalon microcell panels, to create a dynamic aesthetic that casts evolving shadows during the day and transforms into an illuminated beacon at night. This design element added depth and character to the building while seamlessly blending with the surrounding urban landscape. The scrim’s underside tapers into a sharp angle, a sculptural detail that mirrors angular design elements found in other Pagliacci locations.
Durability
The Danpalon microcell panels used in the Danpal VRS Cladding System, deliver outstanding real-world performance and durability. The lightweight panels effectively repel rainwater and provide excellent UV protection, keeping the building’s exterior in pristine condition for years to come.
Simple & Rapid Installation
Danpal’s VRS system made installation quick and effortless. The system that was to be selected for the building renovation had to be simple and quick to install,  while preserving the design intent. The VRS is designed for quick and effortless installation with continuous factory support from design to installation.

CONCLUSION

The Pagliacci Pizzeria Eastgate project in Bellevue, designed by Floisand Studio Architects and built by Wilcox Construction, successfully managed to blend  aesthetics and functionality. With the introduction of the Danpal VRS Cladding System, the facade effortlessly transitions from natural light by day to illumination by night. This effect was made possible due to the translucent Danpalon panels integrated into the system. The result is a durable feature façade that is weather resistant, and is part of a sustainable solution with a lasting visual impact.
